News: Wootha Prize returns to the 2011 Maleny Wood Expo
Organisers of the Maleny Wood Expo From Chainsaw to Fine Furniture are delighted to announce that The Wootha Prize competition is back again in 2011. This year’s Maleny Wood Expo will be held on the 30th April and 1st May at the beautiful Maleny Showgrounds in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Queensland.
Run by Barung Landcare, the aim of the event is to both showcase the work of the region’s finest wood artisans and to promote sustainable timber use. Expo visitors can see the whole ‘wood story’ – from purchasing native timber tubestock and talking farm forestry to mobile milling and the end product, the finished furniture. And the sustainability ethic flows over into the Wootha Prize - all entries must be created predominantly from sustainably harvested native timbers or recycled timbers.
In order to open the prize to more woodworkers, the 2011 Wootha Prize competition is not a themed competition. But all entries must have been made within the past two years, and must fit within a one metre square footprint with a maximum height of 2500mm.
The winner of the Wootha Prize will receive $1000 cash, a trophy and the option of a free site at the 2012 Maleny Wood Expo. The runner up will receive $300 and third place $200.
Expressions of Interest for the Wootha Prize must be received by Barung Landcare no later than 1st March 2011, and successful applicants will be notified soon after. Expression of Interest forms available here. Enquiries please call Steve McLeish on 07 5494 3151.
