Following the success of our introductory nature journaling workshop with Paula Peeters from Paperbark Writer, we are holding another on Saturday 1st June.
Nature journaling is the practice of recording your drawing or writing in response to observations in nature. It is a useful process for encouraging and enhancing a connection with nature, place and self, which is obligatory in fostering greater care for our environment.
Paula describes a nature journal as "part of a conversation with nature ... a fragment of your response." Jon Young, a leader in the field of nature-based community building, says that nature journaling "connects the language parts of the brain to sensory experiences from nature, and both bring each other alive", and that nature journaling "trains the mind to pay attention." It is an opportunity to pause and notice the world around us.
Paula is able to supply a basic nature journaling kit of quality art materials [includes a good-quality sketchbook (Strathmore mixed media visual journal 8 x 5.5 inches), 2B pencil, permanent ink fine pen (Pigma micron), and a print copy of Paula’s book Make a Date with Nature: An introduction to nature journaling] for $25.
This workshop is suitable for interested kids from 10yrs to 110, all levels of drawing or writing skills are acceptable. Children under 15yrs need to be accompanied by an adult. Participants are required to bring their own basic materials including unlined sketchbook, 2B pencil and
permanent ink fineliner pen.
