In March this year Susan Rodger of Eumundi Beef generously allowed us to use her farm as the venue for Plates in a Paddock. Anyone who attended the event will remember what a beautiful property Susan manages. A committed bio-dynamic farmer Susan has turned her farm from a collection of dry, compacted field into a lush, green oasis that makes you wonder 'drought? what drought?'.
Susan is currently working with Noosa Landcare on a project project (funded by Sunshine Coast Council under its grants for landholders) to create stage one of a wildlife corridor linking woodlands extending down a ridge from the Mapleton forest reserve to the riparian zone of Belli Creek, whose waters flow into the nearby Mary River, both important wildlife habitats.
The wildlife bridge will enable increased biodiversity across the two habitat zones and support the sustainable practices already used in managing Onyx Park farm.
The good folks of Noosa Landcare will be doing the planting on the weekend of 17 July. Once the trees are in the ground the planting will need to be followed up with a working bee to spread mulch, erect fences and conduct weed control in adjacent areas.
SCEC is organising a working bee for Saturday 8th August to help Susan with this enormous task. If you enjoyed Plates in a Paddock or think that reestablishing connectivity is great than come and give us a hand and help us say THANK YOU to Susan.
A morning tea and a farm lunch will be provided including a BBQ of beef grown on the farm.
